Do You Have a Property Tax Protest Story You’d Like to Share?

Do you have a property tax protest story you’d like to share?  If you do, email us and we’ll post it.  Your story does not have to be related to us, just an experience you’ve had.

Here’s one that one of our clients sent us this year.  She did use us, and was pleased…to say the least.

“Brook,

Thank you so much for helping me with my property tax assessment fight this year.  Without you, I am not sure what I would have done.  I walked into HCAD’s office and checked in letting them know I was there.  When it was time for my hearing, I was nervous.  I sat down with my appraiser to look at HCAD’s evidence, and then the reports you provided me for my property tax appeal.  Our value increased this year by 22%, and until I spoke with you, I had no idea we could have limited that by filing our homestead exemption paperwork.  Needless to say, that increase really hurt our pocketbook.  We were valued at $223,924 in April.  During my informal hearing, I was able to present a few sales that indicated the value was too high, but what really convinced them were many of my neighboring properties.  I was able to show them that the value of my home was $187,500 and they settled with me for that amount right there on the spot.  They did argue with me for a bit, but I continued my stance that my evidence (your evidence) was overwhelming in favor of a large reduction on my property’s appraised value.  I won my property tax protest thanks to you.  I will do everything I can to make sure others know that you’ll do everything you can to help them, and I will certainly check back again next year after that unjustly raise my values once again, but this time, only 10%!

Thanks again,
